Description: Anne Arundel County, Maryland is interested in monitoring its changing impervious surface for planning and environmental protection purposes. The County uses this dataset to assist in studying and assessing land characteristics for compliance with regulated Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL) and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS-4) permit issued by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). The impervious surface dataset also serves as the basis for calculating the County’s stormwater remediation fee. Existing impervious surface datasets were previously created in 2004 (derived from 1-meter resolution IKONOS satellite imagery) and 2007/2011/2014/2017/2020 (derived from 6 inch resolution, four band, color infrared aerial photography). This version was updated in 2023 by Sanborn Map Company using 4-band aerial imagery (3-inch resolution, leaf-off) that was collected in the spring of 2023 by the State of Maryland. Areas that have undergone change in the period 2020-2023 were updated to reflect those changes, and any inconsistencies found in the 2020 dataset were corrected. The Minimum Mapping Unit for this layer is 100 square feet.

Description: Dataset developed by BWPR from OPZ annual Forest Conservation Act Report Excel files. Tabular data joined to a combination of subdivision polygons, site plan polygons, and parcel polygons identified by Grading Permits for display. Duplicates identified and removed, and standardization of area units (acres to square feet) completed - final calculations of annual FCA report metrics may differ from official reports for this reason.
